I get these questions very often: wow, Domi, you are a chef, you must eat fancy food every day, right?
Something is exciting about being a chef and knowing a lot about food preparation, but at the end of the day, I eat the most uncomplicated food possible, making me happy. You would be surprised how simple my meals are sometimes, but as long as they’re tasty, do not take much effort, and bring all the goodness into my body, I am in!
I decided to share simple recipes on this blog so everyone can find themselves. In today’s post, we will make a green pea puree. It sounds effortless, but trust me, it’s soo good, and you can use it in many ways. Make a few changes and have green pea cream soup, green pea bread spread, or a pea dip. Plus, it’s cheap.. so it is a good option for students and not only.
Why green peas is good for your body?
Every vegetable has something to offer. We can talk nowadays about all the chemicals in foods, which is true. Food today differs from years ago, but I believe we can still get something good from veggies. Our body needs this natural micro, and veggies are a perfect source.
Green peas, these tiny jewels have so much in storage, and I would love to tell you a little about what eating them will bring to your body.
The review of the health benefits of peas says, ” These health benefits derive mainly from the concentration and properties of starch, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals in peas.
Peas’ vitamin and mineral contents may play essential roles in preventing deficiency-related diseases, specifically those related to deficiencies of Se or folate. Peas contain a variety of phytochemicals once thought of only as antinutritive factors. These include polyphenolics, in colored seed coat types in particular, which may have antioxidant and anticarcinogenic activity; saponins, which may exhibit hypocholesterolemic and anticarcinogenic activity; and galactose oligosaccharides, which may exert beneficial prebiotic effects in the large intestine. “
I find this interesting; ” Pea protein, when hydrolyzed, may yield peptides with bioactivities, including angiotensin I-converting enzyme inhibitor activity and antioxidant activity. “

These spices will boost the flavor of your green pea puree
I like to spice my meals up whenever possible. When you cook potatoes or pasta, legumes, whatever, add bay leaves and spices to bring it to the next level and add some layers of flavor right in the beginning. Did you know that putting turmeric in boiling pasta will have a beautiful yellow and vibrant color in the end? That’s epic!
In today’s recipe what I did to bring this easy recipe to the next level was:
- Cooking green peas in veggie broth. I love using homemade veggie leftover broth, but sometimes I use the powdered one efficiently. I buy the best quality possible. When boiling the water, I add broth powder and salt to let the green peas cook and absorb flavor.
- Adding nutritional yeast boosts the umami flavor in your meals. I decided to add nutritional yeast here, but it’s optional. If you do not have it, it’s magnificent. You can put only salt and pepper, and the puree will still be delicious. I like adding yeasts sometimes; it balances umami flavors very well and adds something interesting.
How to make the easiest green pea puree?
STEP 1:
Boil water first and spice it up. Add vegetable broth powder and salt and taste it before adding peas. This step will create the first layer of flavor for your dish. When the water is boiling, add frozen peas and cook until soft.
STEP 2:
When peas are cooked, remove them from the pot and place them in a blender or food processor. Add all ingredients and blend until smooth. You can add more broth to make it more liquidy if you desire. It will thicken after it sits. If you want to have it thicker, then leave it and use it for crepes, crackers, or as a bread spread with veggies and mayo on top.
You might ask this, here is the answer;
- Can I freeze it?
Yes! You can freeze it and keep it for later. However, eating this right away and enjoying it is much better! - I do not like coconut milk; can I use something instead?
Absolutely! You can use the same amount of broth the peas were cooked in. You can use any drink and milk of your choice. A soy drink would work well. I used dried soy milk when cooking it in a restaurant, which was terrific. In that case, I would add more broth and oil. Experiment with the consistency and different substitutes.
